How much do you spend on cases for your phone?

There are some amazing accessories out there. While the main act will always be the smartphone, that doesn’t mean that the case some people wrap around their daily driver has to be awful. And, sure enough, most cases these days that warrant any real amount of attention are well beyond just rudimentary tools.

Cases tend to offer a sense of protection, but for some it’s all about another way of expressing one’s self. Cases can be ridiculously colorful, or show a picture from a favorite movie, sports team or whatever else. They can be big, thin, bold or invisible. There’s a ton to choose from, and more than likely if you’re looking for something specific, you can find it.

And as usual, with so much to choose from the price range for a case is all over the place.

It’s almost weird to say that a case has features, but there are some out there that actually do. For instance, Twelve South launched its BookBook case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus just in time for the weekend. It’s a large, flip-cover case that hides the iPhone not only in a cover that looks like an old-time book, but also includes a thin protective case as well. More than that, the BookBook also boasts a series of pockets to house credit cards and cash, even a driver’s license. It can be set up as a stand, too.

And then there’s HTC’s Dot View case. With a series of lighted dots on the front of the case, important information can be displayed to the owner without actually opening the case. Getting a phone call? The case will let you know. Even getting the weather is possible. Now that’s a case with a features list.

So, how much do you spend on a case? The HTC Dot View case, with the little lights that can give you real-time information, currently runs $49.99 from HTC’s website. Twelve South’s BookBook, on the other hand, with its pockets and protective thin shell and built-in stand, runs for $59.99.

I want to know if you have a case how much you paid for it, and if you paid more than, say, $39.99, what you got for it. Did you aim for just protection? Or is it something that really stands out for its features or aesthetics? Let me know!
