Huawei continues to back away from Windows Phone, says 'nobody made any money' with the OS

Huawei hasn’t been a huge player in the Windows Phone game to date, but it did launch the Huawei W1 in the U.S., giving budget-conscious consumers another WP option. Unfortunately for Microsoft and the Windows Phone platform, it looks like Huawei won’t be contribution to the WP platform any further.

Joe Kelly, Huawei’s leader of international media affairs, has revealed that Windows Phone hasn’t played a big role in Huawei’s effort to gain mobile market share. “We didn’t make any money in Windows Phone,” Kelly told the Seattle Times. “Nobody made any money in Windows Phone.”

Huawei has launched two Windows Phone devices to date — the aforementioned W1 and the W2 that launched in China, Russia and other countries in 2013 — but Huawei has said that it doesn’t plan to create any more WP products. Considering that Microsoft has been struggling to help Windows Phone gain market share and that there aren’t many companies making WP hardware, Huawei’s statements can’t make the Redmond firm feel great.
