OnePlus apologizes for One preorder issues, will hold another preorder event next month

Yesterday OnePlus launched its long-awaited preorder system that allowed consumers without a OnePlus One invitation to purchase a unit. Things got off to a rocky start, so OnePlus extended the preorder window from one hour to three. Now OnePlus has announced that it’s going one step further to make up for the issues that some had.

OnePlus announced today that while “tens of thousands” of customers successfully placed orders, many others had an experience that was “unacceptable” because of server difficulties. OnePlus explains that while it doubled its server capacity to handle the expected traffic, the servers hung at certain points and prevented users from logging in. As more people tried to preorder, the connections pied up and prevented some folks from properly accessing the store.

In order to make it up to consumers, OnePlus will hold another preorder event on November 15 at 15:00 GMT (11:00 am ET). Waiting a couple of weeks will allow OnePlus to build up its inventory again and make changes to its server setup.

OnePlus went on to provide answers to some frequently asked questions regarding yesterday’s preorder process. For example, customers that got charged for two orders can cancel one in their store account. OnePlus also says that if your order went through on PayPal but you have’t gotten any confirmation, you can rest easy because your order has gone through. The company says that it can take up to 72 hours for confirmation emails to go out.

OnePlus has certainly had a mixed history when it comes to promoting and selling its smartphone, so it’s disappointing to learn that yesterday’s preorder event went poorly for some users. The good news is that OnePlus is going to make up for the problems by holding another preorder event that’ll not only give those who had issues another crack at the phone, but it’ll also let anyone that may have completely missed yesterday’s preorder another chance at a OnePlus One.

Did you try to access the OnePlus One preorder yesterday? If so, what was your experience like?
