Nextbit Baton wants to help you keep your apps and data in sync across Android devices

As anyone that’s ever moved from one smartphone to another will attest, it can be a pain to transfer all of your apps and other data from one device to another. Not only do you have to remember which apps you’ve downloaded, you might also lose your progress or other data in those apps. Nextbit thinks that it’s got the solution to that problem.

Nextbit Baton is a new service that aims to help you sync your apps and data across multiple Android devices. That includes sending an app’s state from one device to another so that you don’t lose any of your precious data. Nextbit baton also supports backup and restore so that your app data is in the cloud and always ready to go. Nextbit Baton’s official feature set is as follows:

  • Sync: Keeps apps and data in sync across multiple devices, allowing users to move fluidly from one device to the next without missing a beat.
  • Pass: Send any open app in its current state to another device, saving time and eliminating the tedious process of manually finding and opening apps on different devices.
  • Backup and restore: Save apps and data to your Nextbit profile in the cloud, so you can always get your apps back on any device.

Nextbit Baton is going to be available for beta testing to users with two of the following four devices: Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013) and OnePlus One. You’ll also need to be willing to root your devices and install Cyanogen on them.

Nextbit’s Baton service sounds like an interesting way to transfer your apps and data between devices, particularly when it comes to being able to send your app’s current state from one device to another, allowing you to do something like start work on a document on your phone, then transfer it to a tablet when you get home. Plus, there are former employees of Apple, Amazon, Google, HTC, Dropbox and more that call Nextbit home, so it’ll be interesting to see what the company does in the future.
