It’s official, Snapchatters: advertisements are coming your way.
Snapchat just announced that this weekend, it’s going to put an ad in the “Recent Updates” section of Snapchat. The ad will be used in the US only. Snapchat explains that ads will only appear in your Recent Updates section “from time to time” and that you can choose whether or not you want to watch it. The ad will disappear after you view it or within 24 hours of appearing.
While some may find it disappointing that ads are coming to Snapchat, the company notes that it won’t be inserting ads into your own Snaps or Chats, because “that would be totally rude.” That’s reassuring, and one good thing about the ads is that you can choose whether or not you want to view them. Sure, it may be kind of a bummer that Snapchat is rolling out ads just like Instagram did last year, but these companies have to make money some how, don’tcha know.
