Google Now given Material Design makeover in new Android 5.0 Lollipop preview

It looks like that Flappy Bird-esque Easter egg isn’t the only goodie that’s been discovered in the latest preview build of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

An updated version of the Google Search app — version 4.0.26 — is included with the new Android 5.0 preview build that was released today. The updated app includes a Material Design makeover for Google Now that has the same card-based design but with a fresh new look. There’s a fully-exposed hamburger menu, icons next to all of the slide-out settings and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to easily switch Google accounts while in Google Now.

Now for the bad news: while the .APK for the new Google Search app has been pulled, the folks at Droid-Life say that it doesn’t seem to work on any non-Android 5.0 device. That means that if you aren’t already on the Lollipop preview build, you’ll likely have to wait to try out this refreshed version of Google Now. At least we’ve got screenshots to tide us over until Android 5.0 rolls out to the public, right?
