FreedomPop is now two years old, and to celebrate another full year of existence, the company is launching its very first own-branded hardware.
The FreedomPop Liberty is now available for purchase for just $89. The Liberty is an Android tablet with a 7-inch 1024x600 display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage, microSD slot, 512MB of RAM, a 4-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing cam. It’s powered by a 2400mAh battery and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
If you prefer your tablets with built-in cellular connectivity, FreedomPop will begin selling an LTE-enabled 7-inch Android tablet known as the Frenzy next month for $99. Rounding out FreedomPop’s own-hardware launch will be an $89 LTE Android phone that’ll hit “in the coming months.”
FreedomPop says that it’s also got plans to expand its lineup of phones from other manufacturers. Both the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Note 3 will launch in the near future at prices that are “half the current MSRP.”
The FreedomPop Liberty may not be the most high-end tablet we’ve ever seen, but it sounds like a decent little slate for just $89, which ought to appeal to the type of consumer that’d sign up for FreedomPop service. Plus, it’s a big deal for FreedomPop to be launching its own-brand hardware. If you’re the type that wants high-end hardware on FreedomPop, they’ve got you covered with the Galaxy Note 2 and 3.
