iOS 8 GM seed now available ahead of next week's official launch

Apple announced a whole lot of new goodness today, but unfortunately for those of us that want an iPhone 6 or Apple Watch, those devices aren’t available right this second. The good news is that if you’re a registered Apple developer, you do have something new to play with today.

Apple today released the iOS 8 GM (Gold Master) seed to those folks that are a part of its official developer program. The update is build 12A365 and is available to the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch fifth generation, iPad 2, iPad third-generation, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina Display.

iOS 8 will roll out to the public on September 17, which gives developers a full 8 days to put the gold master version to the test to make sure that it’s ready for prime time. Today’s release doesn’t mean much for us non-registered devs, but hey, at least now we know that we’re only a little over a week from finally giving iOS 8 a go. Until then, you can check out the list of iOS 8 GM changes provided 9to5Mac:

  • Larger animated hands in Clock app icon
  • New wallpapers
  • Changed iCloud icons, including iCloud Backup
  • New Passbook app icon with red credit card stripe up top
