New HTC J Butterfly debuts with One (M8) styling, unique Duo Camera

HTC has been using its “One” branding for its flagship phones in most of the world for a while now, but things are different in Japan, where HTC’s high-end hardware are part of the “Butterfly” family.

HTC today took the wraps off of its new J Butterfly (HTL23), the follow-up to the original J Butterfly that debuted in 2012 and the Butterfly S from 2013. The newest J Butterfly features the following specs:

  • 5-inch 1080p Super LCD3 display
  • 2.5GHz quad-core MSM8974AC processor
  • Duo Camera with 13-megapixel main, 2-megapixel secondary sensors
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • microSD slot with support for cards up to 128GB
  • 2700mAh battery
  • Waterproof and dust-proof body
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • Android 4.4 with HTC Sense

The HTC J Butterfly is launching on KDDI in Japan. There’s no word yet on whether or not this new J Butterfly will ever venture outside of Japan, which is kind of a bummer since it appears to combine some of the best characteristics of the One (M8) with a polycarbonate and waterproof frame.

Would you rather have the HTC One (M8) or this new J Butterfly as your daily driver?
