Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 references spotted on official Microsoft web page

This weekend just keeps getting better for Windows Phone fans. Twenty-four hours after Microsoft launched its Live Lock Screen Beta app into the Windows Phone Store, references to the Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update have been discovered on an official Microsoft web site.

Over in the official Windows Phone Dev Center, links for “Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1” and “What’s new in the documentation for Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1” have been spotted in the page’s sidebar. Unfortunately, clicking them leads to a page explaining that you need to be a registered Windows Phone OEM to view the linked information.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard rumblings regarding the first big update to Windows Phone 8.1. Earlier this month, a report suggested that the update, also known as “Windows Phone 8.1 Update,” is nearly done and that it would reach the Release to Manufacturing milestone soon. The fact that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 info is now on Microsoft’s own Windows Phone Dev Center site suggests that the update is indeed nearing completion.

As for what’ll be included in Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1, it’s likely that we’ll see native folder support included. That’s about all we know about the update for now, though.
