Manufacturers have taken over our pockets and bags, thanks to smartphones and tablets, and now it's time to try and find the best place to put their brand beyond that. A lot of them have tried to take over our living rooms, and many are actively still trying. But the living room is a hard nut to crack, apparently, so manufacturers are expanding their attack plan.
Instead of just focusing on one room, why not overtake the whole house?
That makes sense to me. If you can't get one room, just get all of them, and then you'll get that other room by default. Or maybe you won't, and it won't even matter because you'll have the others. That works, right? Sure it does.
Honestly, it's all pretty great. The idea of making our homes smarter, and letting us control them from pretty much anywhere our mobile devices can grab an internet connection is pulled straight out of a science-fiction plot. And yet, it's getting to the point where it's pretty much a commonplace. Or, pretty close.
We've already seen a drastic price drop in the smart accessories for our homes. In some instances, anyway. We've gone from light bulbs that were over $100, to lights you can pick up for around $15. And the apps we control them are free, more often than not. There are certain elements that can be pretty expensive, though, like smart thermostats, but I don't believe that will be the case for much longer. With Apple, and Google (among others) putting a major focus on making our homes smarter, and more connected, these accessories will level out with pricing.
I still haven't jumped on board the smart home bandwagon, though. It's not that I don't think it's great, though. I really do. I can't wait to see where this goes, and what new smart devices we can put in our homes. And, hopefully, we continue to see trends that make the gadgets therein even easier to use, or better ways to secure our homes.
