We’ve already had a lot of exciting releases hit shelves in 2014. We had the LG G Flex, the HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, OnePlus One, and Sony Xperia Z2. All of those great releases, and we’re only just a little over halfway into the year, which means there’s still plenty more to come. For a lot of people, the second half of the year is the best half as we anticipate releases from companies like Apple, Samsung, Motorola, Google, and Sony. Which phone are you most excited to see in the latter half of 2014?
We have a pretty good idea of some of the phones that are set to release this year, the two most notable are probably the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. However, we’re also expecting to see the Motorola Moto X+1, the Xperia Z3, and perhaps some “Android Silver” devices in place of Google’s Nexus line.
What we don’t know are specifics, so it’s up to hype and rumor to get us jazzed about these mystery phones.
Personally, I find myself getting the most excited for two phones: the iPhone 6 and the Moto X+1. I’m always intrigued about the iPhone when it’s time for a hardware upgrade, and although I was less than impressed with the changes made to the iPhone 5, I still find myself curious as to what Apple has up their sleeve for this phone. Will it be a drastic change, or will be it be something a little more subtle? I’m rooting for a drastic change this time around, just to keep things interesting, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high. That’s what happened with the iPhone 5, and I ended up setting myself up for some major disappointment.
The Moto X+1 is another interesting one for me, because I was so against the original Moto X at first and now it’s my daily driver. I’m intrigued to know how Motorola plans to change the Moto X now that they’re operating under Lenovo. I expect to see the specs go up at the price to remain low in order for the phone to have much success, as we found out from the first model that low specs and high prices just don’t sell that well these days. I feel like this is a concept that Motorola grasps very well now, what with the release of the Moto G and the Moto E.
I don’t find myself as jazzed about the Galaxy Note 4 or the Xperia Z3. The Galaxy Note has always been too large for me to consider, but I am kind of pleased to hear that the rumors suggest that the size of the phone will remain the same this year as it did last year, with improvements to display quality. Either way, it doesn’t matter to me if it got any bigger. They’re still pretty cool phones for what they’re worth, though, so if size isn’t an issue than the Galaxy Note 4 should definitely be on your radar for this year. The Xperia Z3 is only off my radar because of availability here in the U.S., which will probably be slim to none.
Finally, we have Android Silver, which I’ve chosen to keep my reserves about. Without much real knowledge of what the program really is and how it will affect the Nexus program, there’s not much I can say about it. I like premium phones as much as the next person, but I also like affordability. Nexus was getting pretty good at featuring flagship phones at affordable prices, so it’s going to take a lot to sway me on that one I think.
Still, the rest of this year should prove to be a good one to keep an eye on. There’s a lot of big changes coming our way.
