Earlier this year, Sprint announced that it would be rolling out Wi-Fi Calling functionality to select Android devices, allowing users to make calls over Wi-Fi networks rather than Sprint’s cellular service. Devices like the Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 mini were named as some of the initial phones that’d be receiving the feature, and now another Samsung handset is gaining Wi-Fi Calling support.
Sprint has announced that its version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is receiving an update today that enables Wi-Fi Calling. The update will bring the S5 up to software version G900PVPU1ANE5.
Wi-Fi Calling is a pretty handy feature to have because it includes unlimited voice calling and messaging for no extra charge. Plus, there’s the benefit of actually being able to make calls if you’re in an area with weak Sprint coverage. So while this Galaxy S5 update may not seem like a big deal, it’s actually pretty significant.
