It’s always been important to have a quality password to protect your online info, but that’s become especially true lately in light of security breaches like the one that happened to Target. Having a hard-to-crack password can be difficult to remember, though. That’s where password managers come in, and today Android users have a shiny new one to check out.
1Password today launched the new version of its Android app into the Google Play Store. The new 1Password 4 for Android is completely revamped compared to the old app and is much more in line with recent Android design trends.
The 1Password app can store your passwords and sync them between your PC, Mac and iOS devices, all behind a master password and 256-but AES encryption. Sync can be carried out using Dropbox or a cloud-less Folder Sync option. The app can also store credit card info, bank accounts, secure notes and more and also create new, secure passwords for you to use.
I’ve been beta testing 1Password 4 for Android and can confirm that it’s a major upgrade over the old Android app, which gave off a very Gingerbread-esque vibe. The new app is much prettier and more feature-complete, and it’s also just as nice as its iOS counterparts.
1Password for Android is now available in the Google Play Store as a free download. The full version will be totally free until August 1, at which point the app will switch into read-only mode. Users can then pay a one-time in-app purchase to unlock all of 1Password’s features. AgileBits, the maker of 1Password, hasn’t yet determined how much that in-app purchase will cost.
