Samsung is known for making big smartphones, having introduced one of the first “phablets” in the original 5.3-inch Galaxy Note and more recently debuting the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega. Today Samsung has taken things one step further with the debut of the Galaxy W.
Announced this morning in Korea, the Samsung Galaxy W features a 7-inch 1280x720 TFT LCD display. If you’re curious just how large the Galaxy W itself is, Samsung says that it measures 191.8 x 99.6 x 8.8 mm in size.
The Galaxy W’s full spec list is as follows:
- 7-inch 1280x720 TFT LCD display
- 1.2GHz quad-core processor
- 8-megapixel rear, 2-megapixel front cameras
- 16GB storage, microSD card slot
- 1.5GB RAM
- 3200mAh battery
- Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
- Software features that include Multi-Window, Split-Screen and Pop-Up Play
- LTE-Advanced connectivity
The Galaxy W will hit Korean carrier SK Telecom for 490,000 won, which is approximately $478 USD. Samsung hasn’t said whether or not the Galaxy W will make its way to markets outside of Korea.
Samsung’s new Galaxy W will prove to be too large for some folks, but I’m sure that there are others out there that will appreciate having a giganto-phone that can double as a tablet rather than having to carry around two separate devices. And while its spec sheet likely won’t blow many folks’ hair back, its sub-$500 price tag seems reasonable for what you’re getting.
