What's in your pocket, Evan Selleck?

It's that time again. This morning I was asked, "Hey, Evan, what's in your pocket!" just like I was a year ago, and I instinctively considered that an iPhone was going to be my answer. Up until about a day ago, it would have been. But then I looked down at the phone I was using -- really looked at it you know? -- and realized that I had a Samsung-branded phone there.

Okay, in all seriousness, this is kind of a big deal for me! Last year, I told all of you that the reason the iPhone was the handset I was using, and not HTC's One that had been released right around that time, was because it was my "go-to" handset. The one I just used, when I was tired of switching devices. And that's still true, but it's now the iPhone 5s this time around. I've already used quite a few different phones in 2014, but the iPhone 5s has been the most consistent one.

It just so happens to not be today that I'm using it, so I get to wave around a different phone today! That's exciting! So, the Galaxy S5 gets all the attention today.

Overall, while I'm still not a fan of Samsung's proprietary software -- and I'm beginning to come to terms with the fact that I just may never be -- it's also not as bad as it has been on previous devices, so I think that's why I'm sort of able to live with it. I have no idea how long that' going to last, but for now, it's manageable. I do like the phone overall, as I said in that article not too long ago about the thing I wouldn't change about Samsung's flagship device. It feels good in the hand, despite the relatively large display, so that counts for something.

The iPhone may still be my go-to device more often than not, but it feels good to have options again. The Galaxy S5's here -- it may not be to stay, but even the briefest time together could be wonderful. Here's to hoping.
