Just as expected, Samsung today officially tok the wraps off of the Galaxy K zoom, a cameraphone that’s based on Android and features an optical zoom lens.
The Samsung Galaxy K zoom is the camera-centric follow-up to 2013’s Galaxy S4 zoom. With the new Galaxy K zoom, Samsung has slimmed down the body of its cameraphone while boosting its screen size and megapixel count. The spec rundown for the Galaxy K zoom looks like this:
- 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display
- Hexa-core processor (1.3GHz quad-core, 1.7GHz dual-core)
- 20.7-megapixel camera with 1/2.3 BSI CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom, Xenon flash and optical image stabilization
- 2-megapixel front-facing shooter
- 2GB of RAM
- 8GB built-in storage
- microSD card slot
- 2430mAh battery
- 3G/LTE connectivity
- Android 4.4 KitKat
Along with its 20.7-megapixel shooter and 10x optical zoom, the Galaxy K zoom also features some special camera-focused software features. The Pro Suggest mode includes 5 optimized filter settings for your photos, while Selfie Alarm used a timer and object tracking to help users take the best selfies possible with the Galaxy K zoom’s 20.7-megapixel camera.
Samsung isn’t quite ready to talk pricing or availability for the Galaxy K zoom, so it’s not clear when you’ll be able to buy one to up your selfie game. The new cameraphone definitely looks like a nice step up from the Galaxy S4 zoom, though, and it could be worth keeping an eye on if you consider yourself a mobile shutterbug.
