Mailbox made waves last year when it launched on iOS and used a reservation system to grant access to the app on a steady basis. Now the app is finally making its way to other platforms, as Dropbox — which acquired Mailbox at the tail end of 2013 — has announced Android and desktop versions of the app.
Just like on iOS, the Mailbox app for Android will be a free download that's available in Google Play today. The image shown by Dropbox today makes it look as though the Android version will also look similar to its iOS counterpart. Meanwhile, the desktop version is still in a beta state, but you can sign up to test it out on Mailbox’s website.
In addition to these two new versions of Mailbox, Dropbox today announced a brand new app for Android and iOS dubbed “Carousel.” The photo-focused app will organize the images stored in your Dropbox by date and event. The app can also automatically back up any new photos you take, share images with others and let those people share their shots with you. Carousel is a free download that’ll launch in Google Play and the App Store. today.
UPDATE: Mailbox has also added a new feature to its apps called “Auto-swipe.” The service learns from the messages that you swipe and snooze and will then automatically mute and snooze messages for you.
