Samsung Galaxy S5 mini spec details begin to trickle out

The mini smartphone trend is now in full swing, with most every major mobile manufacturer offering a shrunken version of their flagship model. Samsung's been in the mini game for a while now, having launched smaller versions of both the Galaxy S III and Galaxy S 4, and so it should come as no surprise that the company is said to be prepping a mini Galaxy S5 as well.

A new report out of SamMobile claims that Samsung plans to launch a Galaxy S5 mini with the model number SM-G800. The device is said to sport a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, down from the 5.1-inch 1080p panel found on the full-size S5, as well as an unknown Snapdragon processor that the site speculates could be a quad-core Snapdragon 400. Rounding out the Galaxy S5 mini's rumored spec list is an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, an IR blaster and a 2100mAh battery powering the whole package.

While past Galaxy mini models have shared a name with their larger siblings, they didn't share the same high-end specs. Instead, they've packed more mid-range hardware that likely turned off many folks in the market for a smaller phone with top-notch specs. While these leaked Galaxy S5 mini specs aren't exactly bleeding edge, they're certainly a step up from the Galaxy S4 mini and its 4.3-inch 960x540 display

It's said that Samsung may be planning to launch the Galaxy S5 mini in June. There's no word yet on where in the world it might hit, but both the S III mini and S4 mini have already arrived on U.S. shores, and so I wouldn't be surprised if the S5 mini eventually made its way stateside as well.
