After spending the past few months teasing the device, Oppo today took the wraps off of the Find 7, its newest flagship Android smartphone.
As expected, there are actually two versions of the Find 7 with some slightly different specs: the Find 7a features a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, while the higher-end Find 7 boasts a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 screen and a newer 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip. Some of the other differences between the two handsets include 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 2800mAh battery in the Find 7a compared to 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage and a 3000mAh battery in the Find 7.
So do these two handsets have anything in common besides the fact that they both have "Find 7" in their names? Actually, they do. Both models sport a microSD slot with support for cards up to 128GB in size (capacious!), LTE connectivity, a notification light and "VOOC" rapid charging functionality, which enables the phones to go from 0 charge up to 75 percent in 30 minutes. Both units are powered by a combination of Android 4.3 and Oppo's own ColorOS 1.2 custom overlay.
One of the tentpole features of Oppo's new flagship hardware is the Sony Exmor IMX214 13-megapixel camera. That shooter, combined with a Pure Image 2.0 image signal processor, enables the Find 7 to produce 50-megapixel photos. It does this by burst capturing 10 photos and then combining the four best shots into a 50-megapixel "Super Zoom" image. The 13-megapixel rear shooter can also capture 4K video as well as HDR GIFs. The Find 7 also houses a 5-megapixel shooter on its face.
The Oppo Find 7a is slated to be made available for purchase in mid-April at a price of $499. Meanwhile, the more premium Find 7 will arrive in either May or June with a slightly higher price tag of $599.
Oppo made a name for itself in the smartphone game with 2012's Find 5 and then the company continued to gain name recognition with the N1, which features a swiveling camera and support easy loading of a CyanogenMod ROM. The Find 7 looks like Oppo's highest-end offering to date, and with a feature set that includes a 2560x1440 display, Snapdragon 801 CPU and support for producing 50-megapixel photos, the device is definitely one that fans of bleeding edge smartphone hardware will want to keep an eye on.
