Making the most out of St. APPtrick's Day with your smartphone!

Top 'o the mornin', to ye! Or maybe you're reading this in the afternoon, or perhaps the evening. Either way, hello, fellow Irishmen! Oh, you're not Irish you say? Well, maybe not today, but come Monday you will be, because everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! So get out your greenest attire and put on your shiniest buckled shoes because it's time to go out and celebrate the luckiest day of the year on Monday. We here at PhoneDog hope everybody has a fun and safe holiday, so we've come up with a list of applications on your smartphone that can help make your holiday both more enjoyable and safer! Without further ado, let's get started!

Untappd (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry)

There's no more stereotypical way to celebrate one's Irishness (if only for a day) than to go out and enjoy some of the finest ale that the world has to offer. With an app like Untappd, you'll not only be able to find some of the most highly rated beers, but you can also use the application to find your way around town to some of the hottest bars and pubs. The app also lets you take photos right through the application and share them to your favorite social networking sites, letting everybody know just how Irish you are today! Plus, this is one of the few apps that is available on every platform - how lucky!

HERE Transit & Google Maps (HERE Transit for Windows Phone; Maps for iOS, Android, or sideloaded onto BlackBerry 10)

If you do plan to go drinking, it would be a good idea to have an alternate method of transportation readily available for you just in case you get a little more boryeyed than you anticipated. No matter where you're at, both HERE Transit and Google Maps can help you find your way back home through public transit. Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry, and drinking and driving are two things that just don't mix. It's better to plan ahead and figure out what types of public transits are around you so you and others have a safe St. Patrick's Day.

Irish Slang (Windows Phone, Android, iOS)

Each operating system has their own variant of an Irish Slang app, but if you want to keep it corny throughout the night and impress your friends with your extensive Irish slang vocabulary, download one of the Irish Slang apps on the market and get ready to amaze your friends with phrases like "Look out for that lad tryin' ta rob da milk out of your tea!" or "I'm divil a bother, how about yourself?" You might get some confusing looks and wonder what exactly it is that you're saying, but there's about a 97% chance that none of them know what you're saying either and you can always just make something up. Also, some of the phrases are just plain fun to say.

Wee Irish Drinking Buddy, Irish Drinking Songs (WIDB for Android; Irish Drinking Songs for WP)

Have you ever seen movies like Grease or Rent and just think that your entire life could be a musical? If you plan on hanging out at bars and pubs all night on St. Patty's Day, it just might be your chance. You can download these applications that feature a slew of popular Irish drinking songs, and you can potentially get a bunch of other snockered people to sing with you. Either that, or you just end up singing by yourself because nobody really knows these Irish drinking songs. But hey, it always starts with one, doesn't it?

Funniest Bar Jokes, Funny Jokes (Windows Phone, Android, iOS)

If the singing thing doesn't work out for you, you could always try and win over some new friends by telling some good jokes. A good way to pick up jokes on the fly is by downloading some of these apps from the market. Both of these app variants feature hundreds of jokes that will (hopefully) get you some laughs and perhaps some new friends throughout the night. Or they totally flop and you just charm people with your inability to deliver a good joke, but either way usually generates the same result. Why not?

Irish Recipes (iOS, Android)

Perhaps you're not all about going out and drinking and you'd rather celebrate in a fun family-filled way at home. Fortunately, there are a couple of applications that allow you to do just that and help you cook some delicious traditional Irish meals. It's also a good way to get the kids involved and learn how to make some new dishes - straight from your smartphone.
