Remember those rumblings about a physical Google Wallet card that was supposedly in the works last year but was a no-show at Google I/O 2013? It's finally here, over a year after we first got wind of its existence.
Google explains that the physical Wallet Card is a prepaid debit card that gives users instant access to their Wallet accounts while at a places like ATMs, banks and anywhere that MasterCard is accepted. When a Google Wallet Card is used to make a payment or withdrawal, the owner will receive a notification on his or her phone.
Interested Wallet users can request a Wallet Card through the service's official website after they first verify their identity. Google says that cards will be delivered to users in 10-12 days.
Google has been focusing on making Wallet more usable for folks without an NFC-enabled phone lately, including launching new apps for Android and iOS that enable users to send and receive cash and make online payments with their Wallet account. The Google Wallet Card looks to be a continuation of that, giving consumers instant access to their Wallet in the real world if they don't have an NFC-enabled device or don't want to wait for their balance to transfer from Wallet to their bank. While it may seem kind of strange to get a physical card for a service that was originally intended to help reduce them, this Google Wallet Card looks like it could come in handy for anyone that uses Wallet on a regular basis.
