T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z now receiving Android 4.2 update

Get excited, friends, because it's Android update time once again! Today's lucky update recipient is the T-Mobile-flavored Sony Xperia Z, which is now getting its bump up to Android 4.2. T-Mobile recently made the update official, announcing that the Xperia Z's update will begin rolling out today, Nov. 19. The 185MB update brings the Xperia Z up to software version 10.3.1.E.0.191 and includes the following goodies:

New Features

  • Update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • Adds camera access from Lock screen

Improvements

  • Software stability improvements
  • Improves handset rebooting when dialing a call.

If you're thinking to yourself, "Self, that's a pretty small changelog," you wouldn't be wrong. There are some important enhancements on that list, though, including a step up to a more recent version of Android and quicker access to the Xperia Z's camera through a lock screen shortcut. The "software stability improvements" entry is also a welcome site because, well, who doesn't like their software to be stable?

T-Mobile says that the Xperia Z's update is now rolling out over the air and will continue to do so until Dec. 18. If your Xperia Z hasn't yet gotten an update notification, you can perform a manual check by moseying on in to Settings > About phone > Software update.
