AT&T expands 4G LTE network, announces two limited time promotions

Sprint's not the only U.S. carrier that's growing its 4G LTE footprint this week, as AT&T announced this morning that it's expanded its own high-speed wireless network. The big blue carrier's LTE service is now available in a handful of new markets and has expanded in a few others. Here's the list of new LTE locales that've been revealed so far today:

New markets

  • Redding, Calif.
  • Red Bluff, Calif.
  • Gallipolis-Point Pleasant, Ohio
  • Marion, Ohio
  • Albany, Ore.
  • Watertown-Fort Atkinson, Wisc.

Expanded markets

  • Essex County, N.J. (Bloomfield, Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Montclair, Nutley, Roseland and West Orange)
  • Morris County, N.J. (Boonton, Florham Park, East Hanover, Madison, Montville, Morristown and Parsippany)
  • Passaic County, N.J. (Clifton and West Paterson)

In addition to its 4G LTE network expansion, AT&T today announced two new promotions to help customers score some discounted mobile hardware. First up, AT&T is giving a free 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 with a two-year contract to any customer that purchases a Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S 4 Active, Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note II with a two-year contract or AT&T Next. Customers will need to sign up for a Mobile Share plan and activate the Galaxy Tab 3 on that shared plan. This offer is now available at AT&T stores, will soon hit AT&T's website as well and will run through Jan. 9, 2014.

AT&T is also handing out AT&T Promotion Cards with balances of at least $100 to any customers that trade in a smartphone and purchase a new device with the AT&T Next upgrade program. Consumers can use the AT&T Promotion Card to pay for a new smartphone, connected tablet, accessory or their monthly wireless bill, but AT&T says that it cannot be put toward AT&T Next installment payments. Like the Galaxy Tab 3 promo, this offer will run through Jan. 9.
