HTC said to be prepping Android-powered smartwatch for 2014 debut

Just days after HTC CEO Peter Chou teased that wearable technology is a product category that he's "excited about," details on an HTC-made smartwatch have leaked out. A source speaking to Bloomberg claims that HTC is hard at work on an Android-powered smartwatch that will include a camera. Other details such as cost and features are still up in the air, but it's said that the device is slated to launch by the second half of 2014.

Considering Peter Chou's interest in wearable tech as well as the fact that just about every major mobile firm around is rumored to be working on a smartwatch, it's no surprise to hear that HTC may be cooking up its own wristworn gadget. The smartwatch category has exploded in popularity lately thanks to devices like the Pebble and MetaWatch, and if most of the watches that are reportedly in development actually make it to market, the wrist could become one of the next big battlegrounds for the major players in mobile. Are you interested in owning a smartwatch? If so, are there any specific companies that you'd like to see a watch from?
