HP caught quite a few folks by surprise earlier this year when it announced that, after being long-associated with webOS, it had created a new Slate 7 tablet running Android. Today the company made it clear that it's now a member of the army of Android manufacturers, though, with the introduction of four new tablets running Google's mobile OS. Here's what to expect from HP's latest batch of slates once they hit store shelves in November:
- HP Slate 7 Extreme: As the name implies, the HP Slate 7 Extreme sports a 7-inch display that has a resolution of 1280x800. Also on the the Slate 7 Extreme's face is a set of front-facing speakers that are supported by a bass-reflex port speaker and NVIDIA's PureAudio tech. Rounding out the Slate 7 Extreme's feature set is a quad-core Tegra 4 processor and a bundled stylus, which when combined with the slate's other features, makes it sound as though HP is a fan of NVIDIA's Tegra Note reference design.
- HP Slate 8 Pro: This one's got an 8-inch 1600x1200 touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a pair of cameras, with one 8-megapixel shooter on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. There's also a trio of ports for your microSD card as well as your micro-HDMI and micro-USB cables, and under the Slate 8 Pro's hood is a Tegra 4 chip.
- HP Slate 7 HD: Yeah, the Slate 7 HD does appear to be a beefed up version of the aforementioned Slate 7. It's got a 7-inch 1280x800 screen, up from the OG Slate 7's 1024x600 display, along with Beats Audio, a dual-core processor and a pair of cameras. HP also says that certain models will include T-Mobile cellular connectivity, complete with two years of free service that includes up to 200MB of data per month.
- HP Slate 10 HD: Rounding out the bunch is a 10-inch tablet that has more in common with the Slate 7 HD than just those two letters tacked on at the end of the name. It's also got a 1280x800 resolution screen, though this one measures in a 10 inches, as well as a dual-core processor and two cameras. The same optional T-Mobile connectivity will be offered with the Slate 10 HD as well.
And that's HP's Android tablet lineup for the 2013 holiday season. There's a nice mixture of features and sizes on offer here, including one model with a stylus, a 10-inch slab and a smaller 8-inch model with the highest-res screen of the pack. One rather important detail that HP is remaining tight-lipped about is pricing, but with all four tablets slated to hit in November, it shouldn't be too long before those beans are spilled as well.
