If you're in the market for a new Windows Phone device on AT&T, your decision just got a little bit more difficult. That's because AT&T has officially slashed the contract price of the Lumia 1020 from $299.99 to $199.99. The price cut comes around a month and a half after the Lumia 1020 originally debuted at AT&T, and it's also happening a week before the big blue carrier launches the Lumia 925 for $99.99. The no-contract price for the Lumia 1020 is $609.99, while the AT&T Next payments are set at $27 per month.
The Lumia 1020's price cut also applies to Microsoft Stores, and the Redmond firm notes that any customers that buy a 1020 from it will receive a free Lumia 1020 Camera Grip. Normally priced at $74, the Camera Grip accessory is a case that transforms the Lumia 1020 into something shaped more like a point and shoot camera. The Grip also features a built-in tripod and a 1020mAh battery.
Nokia's Lumia 1020 is one of the current Windows Phone flagship devices and is the first handset on that platform to sport a 41-megapixel PureView camera. Also included is a 4.5-inch 1280x768 AMOLED display, 32GB storage and a 1.2-megapixel wide-angle front-facing shooter.
When the Lumia 1020 was first announced, there was some talk about whether or not ts introductory price of $299.99 was too high, especially considering that other flagship phones like the Galaxy S 4, HTC One and iPhone 5 were available for $199.99. This price cut helps to bring the Lumia 1020 to the same level as its competition, and while it remains to be seen how much of a sales boost the discount will result in, it's still a good move for AT&T and Nokia to make.
