Smartphones aren't the only goodies that Alcatel has stuffed into its IFA 2013 luggage. Following a slew of new handset announcements, Alcatel today introduced a trio of new One Touch Smart Connectivity devices, including a new tablet and an LTE dongle/Wi-Fi hotspot. Here's what Alcatel's got in its latest bag of wares:
- One Touch EVO 8HD: As its name suggests, the EVO 8HD is an 8-inch tablet whose claim to fame is its removable module that allows its wireless connectivity to be easily upgraded. The device's Wi-Fi connectivity can be supplemented with a 21Mbps 3G or 100Mbps 4G LTE connection thanks to a user-replaceable module. Also included with the EVO 8HD is a 1024x768 screen resolution, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 4GB storage, microSD slot, 1GB RAM, Android 4.2 and a 4160mAh battery.
- One Touch Link W800 and Y800: Alcatel's Link W800 and Y800 are 4G LTE devices that allow the user to suck down an LTE signal and spit it out as Wi-Fi airwaves that can be used by other devices. The Link W800 can be paired with a Wi-Fi Multi Power Kit that allows the device to be plugged into a wall or car outlet and then produce a Wi-Fi signal while plugged in. Another accessory, known as the Pocket Wi-Fi Zone, utilizes a 5200mAh battery to power the W800 and emit a Wi-Fi signal wherever the user goes. Meanwhile, the One Touch Link Y800 features a slim design and is capable of supporting up to 10 connected devices at once.
- One Touch Home V101: Rounding out Alcatel's array of new hardware, the V101 is a small TV link that works with Miracast-enabled devices and Android hardware running 4.2 Jelly Bean or higher. The V101 plugs into an HDMI port and requires USB power. Once plugged in, a user can transmit content from their phone or tablet to the V101. Pictures, videos and games are all supported, and the V101 can transmit 1080p content at 30fps.
Alcatel says that the EVO 8HD will land in the fourth quarter of 2013 with a price of around $299, and the V101 TV dongle will follow in Q1 2014 with a price tag that's yet to be determined. Availability details for the the Link W800 and Y800 LTE sticks are up in the air for now, but as usual, I'll pass along more details as they're available.
