A new rumor surfaced over the weekend that claimed that Apple is planning to unveil its new iPhone at an event on Sept. 10, and now that report has received a bit of backup. The Loop's Jim Dalrymple today issued a "Yep" response to AllThingsD's original story. While the Sept. 10 event is still unofficial, Dalrymple has a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple rumors, correctly predicting both hardware information and event dates.
If the Sept. 10 event rumor holds true, that means that Apple will show its new iPhone almost exactly one year after its previous model. The Cupertino firm is known for following a yearly refresh cycle with its iOS products, and so such a move wouldn't be a surprise. When it comes to the new iPhone itself, the rumor mill has suggested that the device will sport an upgraded camera, dual-LED flash and possibly a new A7 processor.
Apple has yet to comment on the rumors that it's planning an event for Sept. 10, and the company likely won't have anything to say on the matter until its ready to send out formal invitations to the gathering. Invitations for the two previous big mobile hardware shindigs, the iPad mini and iPhone 5, went out around a week before the events took place. Whenever the Cupertino firm gets around to sticking the invitations for its next event in the mail, you can bet that I'll give you a shout.
