The Moto X is steadily becoming one of the leakier handsets we've seen recently, and today the flow of information continues thanks to a few more pieces of intel. First up, a promotional video from Canadian carrier Rogers has been posted by Ausdroid that offers a clear look at the unit itself and highlights a few of its features.
The clip shows the Moto X asleep on a desk, but the unit wakes up when the user asks "OK Google Now, what's the forecast for today?" and gives a report of the day's weather. It's said that the Moto X can also provide directions, set alarms, and perform other functions in a similar manner.
Another new feature of the Moto X is the way that it provides notifications. Rather than relying on a notification LED, the Moto X's display will faintly show "active updates," which include the time and an icon for the app that wants the user's attention.
Finally, the leaked promo video shows that the Moto X's camera can be accessed with two twists of the wrist. Once the user is inside the camera app, photos can be taken by tapping anywhere on the display, and a burst of images can be captured by holding a finger on the screen. The clip ends by revealing that the Moto X will be launching at Rogers in August in both black and white.
When Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside first confirmed the Moto X's existence, he teased that the phone will have several sensors that will allow it to be aware of what's going on around it and be ready for certain situations. The voice commands and camera-activating twist gesture shown in this video appear to be examples of how the Moto X puts those sensors to work. Voice commands and gestures are nothing new in the smartphone world, but the Moto X's capability to recognize them while asleep should allow users to get at their information and apps quicker than in the past.
In addition to this Rogers promo video leak, some purported screenshots from an AT&T Moto X (XTT1058 "ghost") have been posted in the Android Central forums. The images show the app "CPU-Z" and appear to reveal many of the X's specs. Included with the list of specs is a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB RAM, 11.88GB of internal storage, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The Moto X is also listed as having a display resolution of 1184x720, which suggests an actual resolution of 1280x720 with on-screen navigation keys.
Rounding out today's list of leaks is another voice control feature. Along with the spec-focused screenshots, one image shows an "Open Mic" capability that can initiate phone calls when the user says things like "OK Moto Magic, call Lisa at home."
