LG isn't exactly a huge part of the Windows Phone ecosystem, having only released the keyboard-equipped Quantum on AT&T and the full-touch Optimus 7 for international markets. Both of those were Windows Phone 7 devices, meaning that the Life's Good crew has yet to unleash a Windows Phone 8 handset into the market. That may be changing soon, though, as an LG executive has said that the company is working on a piece of Windows Phone 8 hardware.
Speaking to Light Reading India, LG India Managing Director Soon Kwon said that his company is working on a Windows Phone 8 smartphone in its home of South Korea. He explained that LG has been focusing heavily on Android and will likely continue to do so, LG believes that Microsoft's platform "will pick up going ahead" as Ballmer and Co. continue to work on it. As for when LG might officially join the Windows Phone 8 part, Kwon said that no decisions have been made regarding its WP8 product launch and that for now, LG will continue to examine the device's market opportunities.
There are a handful of different manufacturers that have been pumping out Windows Phone 8 hardware recently, including Nokia, HTC, Samsung and Huawei. It certainly couldn't hurt for the platform to have another company contributing hardware, though, even if we don't know much of anything about the Windows Phone 8 device that LG is currently working on. I'm sure that there are some Windows Phone 8 fans that'd like to see LG bring another sliding QWERTY phone to the Live Tile party, but for now we'll just have to wait and see if such a product is in LG's plans.
