Rumors, rumors, rumors. Speculation, speculation, speculation. It's a never ending, repetitive process, but it's one that can build quite a bit of excitement for an unannounced device. I mean, let's be perfectly honest here, when we start hearing all the rumors about a particular device, we get excited. We get excited because, just for a moment, we suspend our disbelief and believe with all our hearts that most of the rumors are going to be true, and that next smartphone is going to be as . . . Epic . . . As our expectations would have us expect.
Whether it turns out like that for you is probably something you can determine on a case-by-case scenario. Plenty of the rumors about the iPhone, each and every one of them, turn out to be a punch of nonsense, but the same can be said for pretty much every flagship device that eventually finds its way onto store shelves.
I love rumors and speculation. Even the ones that are obviously fake, I'll read, and I'll think, What if? What if the next iPhone did have a solar panel attached to the back? What if the next version of Android had even more lock screen widgets? What if Microsoft had paid all the developers of every cool application ever, and they were all (eventually) coming to Windows Phone? Just . . . What if!
That game is one of endless possibilities, but usually inevitable disappointment. However, when we start dealing with more "realistic" rumors, it's anyone's guess what will happen when the device in question finally gets unveiled. Case in point, HTC's next flagship device. This new smartphone, because I simply refuse to call it that other thing, is set to raise the bar for HTC, and probably other companies out there in the manufacturing business as well.
If the rumors are true.
Right now, HTC's next device is called the "T6," and that's it. No cool codename or anything. Just a letter and a number. They could have called it the T-600 and just made a bunch of Terminator fans happy, but we can't have everything, can we? In any event, the T6(00!) is another device that's bigger than what you might expect a smartphone to be, but smaller than what you'd probably like a tablet to be. Like I said, I'm not going to call it that one word, so we'll just stick to smartphone for the duration of the article.
HTC's rumored smartphone is said to have a 5.9-inch display, which puts it bigger than devices like Samsung's Galaxy Note II, and even LG's Optimus G Pro. Which, basically, means the T6 is a giant. No, it's not as big as Samsung's Galaxy Mega 6.3, so I guess there's that. But obviously HTC isn't going for the "World's Biggest Phone" here, so we can basically ignore that bigger devices exist out there for now.
On the inside, the rumors suggest that there's a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood, clocked at 2.3GHz. You'll also find 16GB of built-in storage, 2GB of RAM, and a 3,300mAh battery. There's an UltraPixel camera on the back, and a 2.1MP front-facing shooter on the other side. It'll also reportedly feature a microSD card slot, which is pretty revolutionary for HTC if you ask me. (But welcomed nonetheless.)
Now, I'll tell you right now that I think the 5.9-inch display is too big. Despite my love for the Galaxy Note II, I still think that display may be too big, too. I just make due because of Samsung's S Pen, and the collected functionality it offers out of the box. But HTC isn't just throwing a big phone at us, with the same design elements --like BoomSound-- as the One and calling it good. No, the rumors suggest HTC's going to include a stylus of their own, while also making sure that huge display is worth looking at.
Let me explain. The 5.9-inch display is rumored to be a 1080p HD panel, which means it'll be just like the HTC One's, but bigger. And that's a good thing, as long as HTC can make sure the pixel count doesn't take a hit with the bigger display size. That, pretty much by itself, is one reason why I'm already excited about this fake device. Because I can say in the same breath that the 5.9-inch display is too big, but it'll be huge and beautiful and amazing to look at and I want it. See? Same breath.
And then there's the stylus, which the rumors add will have an "ultra-thin tip," which will make creating things on your huge phone even easier. But, hopefully HTC realizes that just giving us access to a stylus isn't good enough. And, more to the point, I hope HTC is smarter than to make it an accessory that doesn't come with the phone. Seriously, HTC. This is the perfect time to copy Samsung and make it work for yourself. Include that stylus, and make sure that your next version of Sense (because we all now it'll have a new version of Sense) has specific features built for the stylus. Just like the Galaxy Note series of devices has.
If HTC can do this, and the T6 really does have a body much like the One, then I'm already sold. I'm prepared to jump on the T6 imaginary bandwagon, and wave the imaginary T6 flag in support of this fake device. I'll ride that unicorn all day long!
But, all this could be for naught. The T6 could be a real device, but it could feature nothing like what the rumors are suggesting. We're talking about a fake device at this point, so anything is possible. But I'll tell you right now that I'm interested in this unicorn. I want this phone to be real. So, consider my fingers crossed and all that.
