Looks like this week is off to a good start for Google+ users on Android. Google today announced that it's rolling out a major new update for its Google+ app for Android, bringing it up to version 4.0. There's a big focus on photos in this latest update, such as a new Auto Highlight feature that will allow users to check out a group of "top shots" from every set of photos that are added. There are also editing features like Auto Enhance, which will automatically make subtle improvements to people and places in photos, as well as Auto Awesome, a tool that will create things like panoramas and animations based on the images in a user's library.
Today's Google+ for Android update is made even more photo-centric thanks to the addition of Snapseed photography tools. Following its acquisition of Snapseed last year, Google has built some of the service's features directly into its Google+ app. That includes filters such as Drama and Retrolux, as well as controls for things like saturation and contrast.
Photos aren't the only Google+ feature getting an update today, though, as Google has also improved the app's location sharing. The Google+ app now includes a special "Locations" section in its sidebar that will display the locations of a user's friends on a map. Also included in today's v4.0 update is Google's new related hashtags feature, first announced at I/O last week, as well as better-looking notifications, more profile editing features and one-tap access to Google Hangouts.
This new Google+ for Android update sounds like a pretty nice way to kick the week off, right? It's good to see Google bringing its new Google+ web enhancements to its Android app, and additions like Snapseed tools and other image editing features are sure to please the photo lovers on G+. Google says that this Google+ for Android update will be rolling out to the Google Play Store throughout the day, so stay tuned and I'll give you a shout once it goes live.
