Sony has been on a bit of a roll with its effort to sell unlocked Android hardware through its online store. After kicking off pre-orders for the Xperia ZL in late March, Sony began its Xperia Tablet Z presale, then it started selling the Xperia Z and Xperia SP in early May. Now another unlocked handset has hit Sony's online shop, and this time it's the Xperia L that's been made available to U.S. consumers.
Originally introduced in March 2013, the Xperia L features a 4.3-inch 854x480 touchscreen and a camera on its face, along with an 8-megapixel shooter around back. If those were the two slices of bread on the Xperia L sandwich, then the fixins in the middle would include a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8230 processor, 8GB storage, microSD card slot, 1GB RAM and NFC connectivity. The Xperia L sandwich also comes with an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean spread, and its UMTS 21Mbps HSPA+ 850/1700/1900/2100 seasoning means that it can be paired with AT&T and T-Mobile's networks in the U.S.
With a spec list like that, the Xperia L looks to be a low to mid-range Android sandwich handset. Sony has priced it accordingly, asking $349.99 for the unlocked, contract-free device. Interested customers can choose between white, black and red versions of the Xperia L, and orders of all three units are expected to ship out on May 23.
