Today BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins kicked off the BlackBerry Live conference with a keynote speech, and the executive made a few big announcements to help kick off the show. First up we've got the BlackBerry Q5, which follows the Q10 as the second BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone to feature a physical QWERTY keyboard. Along with its hardware 'board, the Q5 offers what BlackBerry calls a "stunning youthful design" that includes white, black, red and pink color options.
Just like its Q10 sibling, the BlackBerry Q5 features a combo of a hardware keyboard and a 3.1-inch touchscreen, giving users two ways to navigate through the BlackBerry 10 software. BlackBerry says that the Q5 will begin rolling out to "selected markets" in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America starting in July. No pricing details have been given.
After seeing the Q5 leak out several times in recent months, it was expected that the device would be BlackBerry's new Curve-like offering for BlackBerry 10. Now that the Q5 is official, it looks like that is indeed the case. The Q5 and its physical keyboard will serve as another BlackBerry 10-powered option for folks that are still addicted to physical smartphone buttons, and the fact that the device will be available in red and pink could make it appealing to consumers that want a new BB10 device that's a bit more colorful than the black or white Q10 models.
