Acer is no stranger to the Android tablet market, and today the company took the wraps off of its latest offering. Dubbed the Iconia A1, the slate features a 7.9-inch 1024x768 display with a 4:3 aspect ratio that Acer says makes the tablet great for web browsing, reading and gaming. Also included with the Iconia A1 is a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 5-megapixel rear camera, front-facing shooter, micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports, 8GB/16GB built-in storage and a microSD card slot for additional space.
The Iconia A1 looks to be the latest in the line of low-cost Nexus 7 competitors that we've seen pop up in recent months. The device's 4:3 aspect ratio helps it to stand out a bit in the Android tablet crowd, and the 7.9-inch display size could make it attractive to folks that want a slate that falls closer to the middle of the 7-inch to 10-inch tablet size range. We'll have to wait until the Iconia A1 hits shelves to see how it actually performs, but the good news is that with the 16GB model slated to launch in June for $199.99, we don't have to wait very long.
