Still rocking an original Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T? Your day in the sun is nearly here, friend, as AT&T has announced that it plans to begin rolling out the Galaxy Note's update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on May 3. AT&T revealed the news on its official support page for the Galaxy Note, explaining that the Jelly Bean update will be made available through Samsung's Kies software.
According to AT&T's changelog for the update, Galaxy Note owners can expect to find a whole mess of new Samsung-specific features after installing the Android 4.1.2 update. That includes Popup Video and Browser, which will allow users to watch video or browse the web while doing other tasks on their device, as well as an enhanced S Note app with more effects and templates. Here's the changelog that's been posted by AT&T:
- Popup note: Allows user to instantly write down directions, phone numbers, and other information while on a call.
- Popup Video and Browser: Allows user to watch video or browse the web while performing other tasks.
- Photo note and frame: Allows user to write down notes on the front and back of a photo.
- Easy clip: Allows user to crop an image from any screen and save or share easily.
- Paper artist: Provides an emotional & aesthetic photo editing experience.
- Handwriting on S planner and email: Handwrite memos or send handwritten notes via email.
- Enhanced S note: More effects & templates were added.
A visit to Samsung's support site for the AT&T Galaxy Note reveals that the Android 4.1.2 update will bring the device up to software version I717UCMD3. Samsung also says that the update will bring with it improved call quality and an improved keyboard.
Finally, since the Galaxy Note is being bumped from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean with this update, owners should also expect to see several JB-specific goodies on their device. That includes Google Now, expandable notifications and smoother device operation thanks to Project Butter.
Obviously this is a pretty big update for the original Galaxy Note, and it's good to see AT&T and Samsung showing OG Note owners some love by moving them up to Jelly Bean. Updating through Samsung Kies may not quite as simple and quick as the over the air method, but considering how many enhancements are packed into the I717UCMD3 update, I'd say that the effort required to run Kies and plug the Galaxy Note into your computer will be well worth it.
