Following a website error that had pushed the Slate 7's launch back to June, HP has officially made its new Android tablet available for purchase. The HP Slate 7 now has its own listing in HP's online shop, complete with a $169.99 price tag. The model being sold by HP features a silver back rather than the red one that we saw at MWC 2013.
For those that'd like a quick spec refresher, HP's new entrant into the Android tablet race features a 7-inch 1024x600 display, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, 8GB storage, 1GB RAM and a 3,500mAh battery. It's also running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features Beats Audio support for headphones.
There's certainly no shortage of Android-powered tablets available to consumers, but HP appears to be trying to set itself apart with a low price tag and Beats Audio. Whether or not that'll be enough to convince customers to pull the trigger remains to be seen, but the good news for anyone that does pick up a Slate 7 is that it looks to be running a fairly vanilla build of Android 4.1. What will be interesting is seeing how frequently HP updates the Slate 7 and if/when it'll get a bump up to a newer version of Android.
