BlackBerry 10 now offers over 100,000 apps, additions from CNN and eBay expected in the coming weeks

Less than two months after launching with 70,000 applications in tow, BlackBerry today announced that its new BlackBerry 10 platform is now home to over 100,000 apps. The company points out that that means that there have been over 30,000 apps added to BlackBerry World over the past seven weeks. There are some big names that are joining the storefront today, as BlackBerry says that apps for Amazon Kindle, OpenTable and The Wall Street Journal are now available for download from BlackBerry World. Some more major titles are said to be arriving in the coming weeks, including CNN, The Daily Show Headlines, eBay, eMusic, Maxim, MLB at Bat, MTV News, Pageonce, PGA, Rdio, Skype, Soundhound and Viber.

While app quality is typically more important than app quantity, it's still good to see BlackBerry 10's app catalog growing, and I'm sure that all of the U.S. residents that are patiently awaiting the arrival of the BlackBerry Z10 on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon are happy to hear that they'll have more than 100,000 apps waiting for them on launch day. That figure looks like it'll be growing more in the coming weeks and months, and the arrival of major apps like CNN, eBay and Skype will certainly help the new BlackBerry 10 platform to better compete against its rivals in the mobile space.
