Apple releases iOS 6.1.3 with fix for passcode lock screen bug

Just one month after the arrival of the last iOS update, Apple today began rolling out iOS 6.1.3 to users today. The update is somewhat small, but it packs a fix for a bug that could allow a person to bypass a device's passcode-protected lock screen and access its Phone app, which is an issue that gained attention last month. Also included in the update are some improvements to Apple's Maps app for Japan.

As demonstrated in a video last month, the passcode lock screen bug could allow someone to access a user's Phone app through a combination of fake emergency calls and button presses. Successfully taking advantage of the vulnerability would grant access to a user's Phone app, which includes the dialer and contact information, so it's good to see Apple issuing a fix. The iOS 6.1.3 update is now rolling out to the iPhone, iPad, iPad mini and iPod touch, and it can be grabbed by heading into Settings > General > Software Update.
