T-Mobile is currently the only major U.S. carrier without an active 4G LTE network, but it looks like that'll be changing very soon. The magenta operator today revealed to The Verge that it plans to officially activate its LTE service by the end of this month, and while T-Mobile isn't quite ready to say exactly where its LTE network will go live first, it did confirm that the coverage is ready for launch in both Las Vegas and Kansas City. Magenta hasn't yet announced the exact date on which it plans to flip its LTE switch.
The T-Mobile LTE news doesn't stop there, as T-Mo has also revealed that it plans to begin rolling out an update to its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II today that will enable the device's LTE capabilities. For those T-Mo folk that want a new piece of hardware to hop onto the Magenta LTE airwaves with, T-Mobile has said that it plans to offer the LTE-capable BlackBerry Z10 to consumers (it's already available to business customers) by the end of March. T-Mo also plans to offer LTE-enabled versions of the Galaxy S III and Galaxy S 4, and a recent leak showed that an LTE mobile hotspot is on the way as well.
Details on T-Mobile's LTE rollout are still up in the air, but the fact that the launch is nearly here is exciting news for customers on the number four U.S. operator. And while T-Mobile is the last of the big U.S. carriers to launch an LTE network, the magenta operator intends to "step on the gas" when it comes to its LTE deployment, with plans to cover 100 million people by mid-2013 and 200 million people by the end of the year.
