Heads up, Gmail fans on Android, because Google just announced an update for its Gmail app with some pretty noteworthy improvements. Over on the Official Gmail Blog, Google has revealed that the newest version of Gmail now allows users on Android 4.1 and up to reply to, archive or delete emails from directly within the Android notification shade. Jelly Bean folk aren't the only ones getting enhancements with today's update, though, as devices running Android 4.0 and up can now search for items faster, even while offline. There's also some bug fixes and performance improvements for hardware running 4.0 and up. Finally, products on Android 2.2 or higher are getting a new Labels API for third-party developers and some performance enhancements.
Gmail is likely one of the more popular apps among Android users, and so I'm sure that there are several folks out there that are glad to see Google expanding upon Jelly Bean's actionable notifications with the ability to reply, archive and delete without leaving the notification shade. While only those on Android 4.1 or 4.2 will get access to that spiffy new feature, the inclusion of some performance improvements ought to make this Gmail update one that just about every Android user will want to go grab as soon as possible.
