U.S. Cellular shared some good news today that ought to help many of its customers have a good weekend, revealing a new software update for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. The update bumps U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III up to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a slight jump from the previous version of Android that it was on (4.1.1). Along with that slight version number change, this new software includes a fix for an audio issue that would crop up while streaming media. The build number for the update is JR003L.R530UVXMB1.
U.S. Cellular announced the Galaxy S III's update earlier today on its Facebook page, and one person commenting on the post noted that she received an update on her Galaxy Note II today as well. The U.S. Cellular update page lists the most recent update for the Galaxy Note II as being the R950VXAMB1 with Android 4.1.2, which is newer than the R950VXALL1 update that rolled out in December. Unfortunately, there's no changelog or other information for the Galaxy Note II's update, so it's not clear exactly what's included.
According to U.S. Cellular's update support page, both the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II can be updated over the air by going into Settings > About Device > Software Update. The Galaxy S III update can also be obtained by plugging the device into a computer and running Samsung's Kies software. While going from Android 4.1.1 to Android 4.1.2 may not seem like a big deal, it's still good to see U.S. Cellular's Galaxy S III get bumped up to a newer version of Google's mobile operating system, and I'm sure that its owners are glad to be receiving a fix for their streaming media audio problem.
