Along with the new BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones, BlackBerry today officially detailed some of the new features that BlackBerry 10 will feature at launch. We've already seen some of the BlackBerry 10 goodies that were demoed on stage today, including BlackBerry Flow, which allows a user to easily get around the OS and get information they want quickly by tapping on their image to view LinkedIn and Twitter details, as well as BlackBerry Hub, a unified inbox that houses all of a user's BBM messages, tweets, email and other communications.
One of the new features shown off by BlackBerry today is BBM video chat. During a BBM text conversation, users can simply tap a button in the upper right corner of their display to initiate a video call. Users can also choose to share their entire screen with a contact using the BBM video chat feature.
BlackBerry today also confirmed BlackBerry Remember for BlackBerry 10, a feature that'd we'd gotten wind of previously. As the name suggests, BlackBerry Remember will store a user's notes, tasks, due dates and other information, making it easy for a person to call up details on upcoming projects or to save some information from a website or email. BlackBerry Remember can also be synced with a user's Microsoft Outlook Tasks list.
BlackBerry Balance aims to help users keep their work and personal lives separate on their BlackBerry 10 device. The feature separates a user's work data and documents from the personal account on a device, and a person can switch between the two fairly easily.
One feature that aims to help out the creative BlackBerry 10 users is the BlackBerry Story Maker. Story Maker allows a user to pull together videos and photos that they've got on their device and put them together with music and effects. The final product can then be sent out to friends and family for viewing.
Finally, BlackBerry spent part of its BlackBerry 10 launch event talking up app selection, which is one of the most important parts of any smartphone operating system. BlackBerry says that there are 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps available in the BlackBerry World storefront. That includes apps from some notable services, such as WhatsApp, Skype, Angry Birds, Amazon Kindle, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, SoundHound, and Rdio.
Finally, BlackBerry spent part of its BlackBerry 10 launch event talking up app selection, which is one of the most important parts of any smartphone operating system. BlackBerry says that there are 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps available in the BlackBerry World storefront. That includes apps from some notable services, such as WhatsApp, Skype, Angry Birds, Amazon Kindle, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, SoundHound, and Rdio. That's not a bad bucket of apps to launch a platform with, but the BlackBerry 10 app selection still has some growing to do to catch up with the likes of Android and iOS. It'll be interesting to see how BlackBerry World grows now that BB10 is officially official, and that's something that I'm sure many folks will be keeping an eye on going forward.
