Just a couple of days after the release of the fifth beta of iOS 6.1, Apple has officially unleashed the final version of iOS 6.1 to the public. This update comes to iOS users a little over a month after the iOS 6.0.2 update, and it brings with it LTE support for a total of 36 additional iPhone carriers as well as 23 more iPad carriers. Siri is also gaining a new feature in iOS 6.1, as the virtual assistant can now purchase movie tickets through Fandango. Rounding out the list of new iOS 6.1 features is a new reset button for the Advertising Identifier and the ability for iTunes Match subscribers to download individual songs from iCloud with the update.
The iOS 6.1 update is available to download both through iTunes and as an over the air update. Users that'd prefer the latter option can install the update by grabbing their iOS device of choice and heading into Settings > General > Software Update. The update is available for the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini and the fourth and fifth generation iPod touch models.
Apple has pushed out five different beta versions of iOS 6.1 in recent months, but those builds are only made available to users that are registered with Apple's iOS developer program. That means that today's release is the first taste of iOS 6.1 for most, and while the update doesn't appear to pack any major changes on the surface, I'm not one to complain about getting new software to mess with.
