Nokia has been offering its free Nokia Music streaming service in the U.S. since September of last year, giving Lumia owners the opportunity listen to playlists curated by the company's "musicologists" or create their own playlist based on artists that the user selects. Today that service expanded a bit, as Nokia has announced its new Nokia Music+ subscription service. After ponying up €3.99/$3.99 per month, Nokia Music+ customers will gain access to a higher quality music stream that Nokia says is eight times that of the existing Nokia Music streams. Also included in Music+ is unlimited song skips, unlimited mix downloads (the free service has a limit of four), viewable lyrics and the ability to play music through a web app.
The new Music+ tier of Nokia's service joins services like Slacker, Spotify, Rdio, and Pandora in the streaming music arena. However, Music+'s $3.99 per month price tag and the fact that it's a Nokia-made app could make it more attractive to Lumia owners than those other services. It's also worth noting that Pandora, which offers a similar playlist-focused streaming service, doesn't have an official Windows Phone app yet, though Microsoft has said that one is coming this year. Nokia says that its Music+ service will be made available sometime in the coming weeks.
