Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update starts in Poland, several other devices due to see Android 4.1

Many Samsung Galaxy S III owners around the globe are patiently awaiting the arrival of their device's official update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but it looks like the residents of Poland will be the first GSIII users to get a taste of Google's latest dessert. Samsung has confirmed to TechCrunch that the Galaxy S III's Jelly Bean update has begun rolling out there, going on to say that it'll be pushed out to other markets "gradually" and that availability will vary depending on the various market and carrier requirements.

Along with the usual goodies that are included with an update to Android 4.1, Samsung has also said that the Galaxy S III's bump will bring new features like an Easy Mode that allows easy access to frequently used apps thanks to large widgets, a Blocking Mode that will block out calls and other notifications, and an upgraded Pop Up Play mode that'll allow users to resize the video window.

There's also good news today for some of you that own a Samsung device that's not named "Galaxy S III," as Samsung has confirmed 15 other devices that'll also be updated to Jelly Bean. The company hasn't said exactly when these updates are expected to begin, only that they'll be coming "soon." The full list is as follows:

  • Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
  • Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy S II
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
  • Galaxy S Advance
  • Galaxy S II LTE
  • Galaxy Music
  • Galaxy Chat
  • Galaxy Ace 2
  • Galaxy Beam
  • Galaxy Ace Plus
  • Galaxy mini II
  • Galaxy S DUOS

That's a pretty sizable list of devices, and while it's not clear when owners of these products will actually see Jelly Bean, I'm sure that the news that they'll be receiving the update to Android 4.1 is plenty exciting for now. As for Galaxy S III owners here in the U.S., they'll have to hope that their phone's update isn't stuck in the carrier approval process for too long. Once we hear more about the Jelly Bean updates for the U.S. Galaxy S III models, you can bet that you'll be the first ones we tell. Stay tuned.
