Mobile Tech Expert Spotlight

Once again, I've got the same list for my Smartphone Rankings. There's nothing out there that beats the Galaxy S III's quad-core processor, beautiful display, consumer-friendly software features, and brand recognition (outside of iOS). The Global version or the US version will do fine, whichever one is most readily available to you, though the Global version's quad-core processor trumps the US versions dual-core processor. The Atrix HD keeps it spot for being speedy, attractive, and reliable. The EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X round out my list, though those aren't bad options to have at spots Four and Five. They both have just plain stunning hardware (I prefer the EVO over the One X) and offer many of the same features - a dual-core processor, a large and beautiful display, 4G - so you can't really go wrong with either one.

Even though this is a jam-packed month for smartphone launches and releases, the Samsung Galaxy S 3 still gets the top spot. Until the holiday season of smartphones are released it still has the best overall package. 

The Droid RAZR MAXX, Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE, Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC One X can all be thrown around in a melting pot of goodness. Depending on your wants and needs, these devices take the remaining slots for a valued choice of best in class. 

My rankings for this week are fairly similar to my list from last week. Apple's iPhone 4S remains at the top spot on my list thanks to its camera, which is still one of the best shooters available on a smartphone, as well as its good battery life and quality app selection.

Not far behind is the HTC One X, whose design I'm a big fan of. (Especially when it comes to the white model.) The One X earns points for having AT&T 4G LTE connectivity and a pretty good camera of its own, as well a very nice 720p display.

Next on my list is the U.S. flavor of Samsung's Galaxy S III, which features HSPA+ connectivity on T-Mobile and LTE support for AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. The Galaxy S III also has a 720p display and several other high-end specs, but I'm when it comes to picking an Android skin, I prefer HTC's Sense to Samsung's TouchWiz.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus takes the fourth spot, thanks largely to the fact that it's one of the only devices on the market officially running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It also features a big, 4.65-inch 1280x720 display, but the GalNex's camera can be not-so-awesome. At just $349 unlocked from the Google Play store, though, the Galaxy Nexus is a pretty good deal for anyone looking for a new smartphone.

Sprint's HTC EVO 4G LTE is next on my list and, like its One X brother, it features a great display and design. It also features a red kickstand, which is something that should please owners of the original EVO 4G upgrading to the EVO 4G LTE. Sprint's LTE network is now live, but so far it's only available in around 19 cities, meaning that the EVO 4G LTE will still be using Sprint's 3G CDMA network in many areas.
