Samsung may have already introduced the the Android-powered Galaxy Note II at its Unpacked event in Berlin, but the company's got something for you Windows fans, too. That device up there is the Samsung ATIV S, a Windows Phone 8 smartphone with a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. The ATIV S is part of Samsung's "ATIV" brand of Windows devices, which the firm explains is the backwards version of the word "vita," which is Latin for "life." Along with Windows Phone 8 and a 4.8-inch screen, the ATIV S features a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera, 1.9-megapixel front shooter, 16GB/32GB storage, 1GB RAM, microSD slot, 42Mbps HSPA+ and NFC. The ATIV S also has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor running the show and a 2,300mAh battery powering the whole thing. The body of the ATIV S is made of brushed aluminum and measures 8.7mm thick.
For folks interested in a new Windows product from Samsung with a slightly larger screen, the ATIV Tab is an option. The ATIV Tab features a 10.1-inch 1366x768 touchscreen and 1.9-megapixel camera on its face, as well as a 5-megapixel shooter on its rear. Under the ATIV Tab's hood is an 832MHz processor as well as either 16GB or 32GB of storage. There's a microSD slot onboard for folks that need even more memory. Other ATIV Tab specs include 2GB RAM, NFC and an 8,200mAh battery.
So when can you get your mitts on these ATIV devices? Unfortunately, Samsung hasn't mentioned any launch or pricing details, so for now we'll have to ogle the images of the ATIV S and ATIV Tab that were released today. The ATIV S looks like it ought to please folks interested in the next major version of Windows Phone, especially since it takes advantage of several of the new Windows Phone 8 features, like multi-core chipsets and high-resolution displays. Meanwhile, the ATIV Tab could be worth considering if you're thinking about turning to a Windows RT device for your tablet needs.
