Leaked HP memo reveals new tablet-focused Mobility Global Business Unit

According to a freshly-leaked HP memo, we'll soon have a new division inside the company to keep an eye on. The document, sent to The Verge, was recently circulated inside HP by EVP of Printing and Personal Systems Group Todd Bradley and reveals that there's a new Mobility Global Business Unit inside of HP. The group's focus will be on consumer tablets initially, though the memo states that it'll "expand to additional segments and categories where we believe we can offer differentiated value to our customers." HP will be bringing on Alberto Torres to lead the Mobility GBU. Torres previously spent seven years at Nokia, including some time leading the MeeGo side of things, and the memo says that one of the first things that he'll be doing at HP will be to "accelerate our tablet strategy and begin to execute products against our consumer/SMB target."

While we know that the Mobility Global Business Unit will be working on tablets and other unnamed products, it remains to be seen exactly what products we might see from HP's new group, though Windows 8-based devices are certainly one possibility. Considering that HP has gotten an ex-Nokia exec that was at one point in charge of MeeGo to head up the Mobility GBU, it'll be interesting to see what comes out this group. We'll keep our eyes peeled and pass along more details as we get 'em.
